The Articulate Fly is a fly fishing podcast hosted by Marvin Cash, featuring more than 1,070 episodes of in-depth interviews with national and regional fly fishing personalities and regular fishing reports for anglers of every skill level. Episodes cover fly fishing, fly tying and fly fishing destinations, with guests ranging from working guides and outfitters to authors, conservationists and competitive anglers.
Our goal is to dig a little deeper and get to the story behind the story. Whether you just loved A River Runs Through It or you’re a streamer junkie, a dry fly addict, a swinger or a nymph head, we have you covered.
Who We Serve
The Articulate Fly was built around a simple conviction: put the listener and the guest first, and the rest will take care of itself. We exist to help anglers be more productive on the water and at the vise and to give our guests a platform to connect with a larger digital audience than many could build on their own. Honoring the trust our community has placed in us is the keystone of everything we do.
Over our eight seasons, we have 100% organically built our audience. We have never purchased listeners or follows. Every subscriber found us through word of mouth and our content. They have stayed because they like what we do and how we do it.
In-Depth Interviews
The heart of The Articulate Fly is the interview. Conversations follow a structured format that moves well past superficial Q&A into substantive discussion of craft, technique and experience. Each interview represents at least ten to twelve hours of work — interview research and preparation, recording the conversation, editing the final recording and loading the episode for release to our listeners.
It is this standard, sustained across more than a thousand episodes, that has made the show a reference point for serious anglers rather than background noise for your day-to-day.
Recognized for Craft
The Articulate Fly has been recognized multiple times for Excellence in Craft by the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA):
- Second Place (2023), Radio/Podcast Fishing for Imperfect Texan Buddha Steve Ramirez (Pt I)
- Second Place (2024), Radio/Podcast Fishing for Family and Fly Fishing with Kisha Atkin

Fishing Reports
Alongside the interview library, The Articulate Fly publishes regular fishing reports drawn from the on-the-water experience of professional guides and outfitters — many of whom spend more days on the water in a season than most anglers do in a lifetime. Our reports are for anglers at every level, from someone planning a first trip to a veteran looking for current conditions and the latest nuance on familiar water. Even if we don’t have a report for your home water, listening to our experienced guides and outfitters will help you become a better angler.

A Deliberate Process
Depth means nothing without freshness. We do not sit on recorded content. It is rare for an interview to publish more than two weeks after recording. Fishing reports are typically live within 24 to 48 hours of our conversation with the guide or outfitter.
The result is a back catalog that is both deep and current. Whether you are researching a destination trip six months out or checking conditions before you leave the house tomorrow morning, The Articulate Fly has something to help you make the most of your time on the water.
